Show respect. Get respect. The Royal Bahamas Police Force in Bimini has re-started its "Young Person of The month" programme. Each month the local police will honour a young person between 15 and 25 in recognition of their example and positive contribution to their school or the community at large. Each recognised young person will receive a Certificate of Award and a gift along with a complimentary meal for two at one of Bimini's several restaurants.
The Royal Bahamas Police Force is acutely interested in the lives of our young people. The police officers want our young people to take the straight course and to avoid opportunities and situations and even people who will influence them in destructive behaviour. It is so easy for our youth to make poor decisions and the when they do the police often become involved. Often a simple error in judgment by a young person can lead to a criminal record and the consequences of that can impact a young person for an entire lifetime Our young people are very important to the on-going development of our communities and our country. They are, as we so often hear, the leaders of tomorrow. This page is filled with information for young people. The police want to help steer our young people into positive behaviour that is life-enriching not life-destroying.
the police want to work with you and help you to make good decisions. Smart choices.

POLICE AT STUDENT CAREER FAIR
Police officers had a great day recently participating at the Bimini All Age School (Alice Town High School) career fair which was organised by the PTA and the school's Guidance Department. Students from Grade 7 through 12 were exposed to over thirty exhibitors from various career fields and from colleges and universities. The purpose of the day was get young people thinking about their future careers and planning now to succeed in moving towards their career choices.
Detective Constable Doron Russell and Constable Sanford Adderley together with R/Sergeant Michael Checkley manned the police booth. Sergeant Checkley also gave a presentation to the entire assembly on policing as a career. "Are you ready to accept the challenge of daring to wear the red stripe and to serve your community as a police officer, as a problem solver, as a peace maker?" asked Sgt Checkley. "Policing is a rewarding, exciting, rarely dull and always challenging career", he added. "Its not for everyone but it could be for you."
"Plan now for your career choice and work towards it", said Sergeant Checkley. "Don't wait until after you graduate. Plan now. Think about it now. Your future deserves your best shot so plan for your future now", he emphasised. "Interested in law enforcement, then come to our booth and come to the station and we can talk about it."
The police officers praised the organisers of the event. "This career fair was well organised and well executed. The organisers, both the PTA and the school deserve congratulations on a job well done", said Officer Russell.

Honouring our best. Encouraging all.
"We want to encourage our young people to do well", said RSGT 473 Michael Checkley, a former teacher and programme coordinator. "There are many young people who are making good choices and heading the right direction. We want to showcase them and tell other kids - 'look here, this what you should be doing'", he added. With so many negative influences being thrown towards our young people this programme will, it is hoped, help to encourage good decision making and reward positive living.
