JULY 10
HAPPY FORTIETH BIRTHDAY BAHAMAS!

His Royal Highness Prince Charles represented The Queen of the United Kingdom in Nassau on 10 July 1973 and he handed
to Prime Minister Lynden Pindling the Instruments and Order of Independence which created
The Commonwealth of The Bahamas, an independent nation.

At ceremonies at Clifford Park the British flag was slowly lowered
and in its place the new and beautiful flag of The Bahamas was raised for the first time.
The Bahamas freely chose to remain a member of the British Commonwealth
and Queen Elizabeth II of The United Kingdom became Queen Elizabeth II, Queen of The Bahamas.

The British Governor, Sir John Paul, then became the nation's first governor-general and within a month
he demitted office and Sir Milo Butler, a son of the soil, became our new nation's first Bahamian governor general.
The Royal Bahamas Police Force participated in all the major events and ceremonies surrounding this great national event.

RBPF
the police service of The Bahamas

The Royal Bahamas Police Force is the national police service of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas. Established in 1840 it is responsible for providing policing services to all the islands and settlements throughout the archipelago of The Bahamas. The Royal Bahamas Police Force is headquartered in Nassau, New Providence. It is also there that the Police College is located which trains young Bahamians for service within the police force. After a six month training period successful recruits are awarded the designation "constable" and are detailed to serve throughout the country.

The Royal Bahamas Police Force is highly respected within the country and throughout the Caribbean region. There are currently over three thousand police officers serving with nearly 800 police reserve officers adding to the ranks in all areas of policing. The police officers posted at Bimini are part of this long standing, well established and respected professional police service.
